To introduce the lesson Elections in India and help students understand the electoral process, a mock election was conducted in the classroom. Five students were selected on the spot as candidates to contest the election. Before the campaign began, the class collectively identified the qualities of a good representative, such as honesty, responsibility, leadership and effective communication.
The candidates then presented their ideas and explained why they deserved to be elected. The remaining students acted as voters, cast their votes and elected their preferred representative.
The activity provided a hands-on understanding of elections, campaigning, voting and democratic decision-making while highlighting the importance of choosing responsible leaders.
