The Classmate Artefacts Discovery activity was conducted as a fun and engaging way to help students learn more about each other while practicing key historical inquiry skills. Each student brought 3–5 personal objects from home that held meaning or represented something about them. These items were placed anonymously in paper bags.
Students then took on the role of historians and archaeologists, analyzing the contents of a random bag to draw conclusions about the owner. They used the Class Artefacts Discovery Sheet to document their observations and inferences.
The activity concluded with a reflection on the role of historians and archaeologists in society. Students considered how conclusions are drawn from limited information.
The activity promoted curiosity, empathy, and critical analysis among students.
