Today, Class V students presented their group projects on Natural Disasters using a range of creative formats. Each group researched a different disaster and used an innovative presentation style to explain its causes, real-life examples, impact, and safety measures. The activity helped students understand serious topics in an engaging and meaningful way.
Group Presentations
1. Earthquake – News Report
The group presented a live “breaking news” segment explaining how earthquakes occur and reported on examples such as the 2015 Nepal Earthquake and the 2001 Bhuj Earthquake (India). They shared safety tips like “Drop, Cover, Hold” and keeping emergency kits ready.
2. Volcano – Scientist Documentary
Students acted as volcanologists and explained types of volcanoes using real examples like Mount Vesuvius (Italy) and Barren Island Volcano (India’s only active volcano). They discussed lava flow, ash clouds, and evacuation measures.
3. Drought – Poem Presentation
This group performed a poem describing the harshness of drought and its effect on farmers, animals, and water sources. They referred to famous droughts such as the Horn of Africa drought and the Maharashtra drought (India), and emphasised water-saving methods.
4. Flood – Role Play
Students enacted a rescue scene showing how communities respond during floods. They mentioned the 2018 Kerala floods and the Bangladesh floods as examples. Safety actions like moving to higher ground and avoiding electric lines during floods were highlighted.
5. Wildfire – Courtroom Drama
Through a mock court case, the group explored causes of wildfires—both natural and human-made. They mentioned the Australian bushfires and the Bandipur forest fire (India). The “judge” and “lawyers” discussed prevention: no open fires, controlled burns, and quick reporting.
6. Cyclone – Weather Forecast
Students delivered a weather bulletin describing how cyclones form and travel. They discussed Cyclone Idai (Africa) and Cyclone Fani / Cyclone Amphan (India). Safety guidelines such as early evacuation, securing homes, and staying indoors were shared.
